Answering Jebat Must Die's "Najib blunder" article

Yesterday. the pro-Mahathir blogger Jebat Must Die (JMD) posted a blog post titled "Another blunder by Najib Razak on his RM2.6 billion money" where he made several quite naughty accusations against PM.

JMD has followed the style of his idol, Tun Mahathir where he has been very selective in his accusations.

First Slander: "What is perplexing is the fact that back in July 2015 when the news about that RM2.6 billion was exposed, he (Najib) and his whole army of sycophants denied ever having any sort of accounts!"

This is entirely false and slanderous. The article from Wall Street Journal exposing the accounts came out on July 2nd, 2015 - and the very next day on July 3rd, 2015, Najib issued a statement which said clearly that the money was not for personal use. Not once did he ever deny the existence of the accounts.

Second Slander: "One of his "bootlickers" (JMD is referring to Ahmad Maslan here) even quipped that no Prime Minister is that stupid to receive money in his personal bank accounts!"

Again, this is false and slanderous. What Ahmad Maslan actually said is ""Perdana menteri bodoh mana yang akan mengambil RM2.67 bilion daripada dana agensi kerajaan dan memasukkannya ke dalam akaun peribadi? Ia tidak munasabah langsung. Jika benar, ia kebebalan yang terlalu amat sangat."

Somehow JMD missed out the words "daripada dana agensi kerajaan" when he slandered Ahmad Maslan. It wasn't too "stupid to receive money" but "too stupid too receive government money in his account."

This is a big difference that JMD somehow missed out.

The third Slander: "he even thanked Haron Din for not believing the Wall Street Journal article! What is wrong with this Prime Minister? Why did he cheat us back in July by saying those lies?"

What Haron Din actually said was "Simple logic says (that) usually, if someone wants to transfer money from a public fund to their personal accounts, they won't do it like this. They will transfer it to a different account or a secret account,"

To which Najib replied

Again, as in the first slander by JMD, this was referring to PUBLIC FUNDS - which JMD missed out on completely. And since these are not public funds as confirmed by MACC, so how exactly did Najib "cheat us back in July by saying those lies?"

The Fourth Issue: Razak contravened penal code 165 and section 16 and section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 which said that public servants cannot receive any donations - whether with or without gratification or payback,

This is what was actually said:

"Asked why the funds were deposited into his account, the prime minister explained that it was the donor's wish and the donation was made in a personal capacity.

"But do not be confused. The account is in my name, but it is not like a personal account. And I am sure that once the investigation is completed, the truth will prevail," he said.

He said that the Bank Negara was notified when the account was created.

"So, there is no intention at all to cheat or to commit an offence because Bank Negara had been notified about the existence of this account.

What Najib meant was that the donor, for his own reasons, wanted to donate to Najib directly but Najib had clearly meant was that although the account is in his name but it was clear that Najib was holding the account in trust for some other party or purpose. 

And it is specifically allowed under UMNO's constitution for the party president to hold funds on behalf of the party.

It is allowed to hold funds on behalf or in trust of another purpose.

Those who have written cheques to donate to charities or other purposes would be familiar with this. For example, this donation drive for acid attack victims were asked to do this:

"Those who wish to donate can make the cheques out to MCA Public Services Dept, Wisma MCA, Tingkat 7, 163 Jln Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur.
Please write “Azri bin Abdullah” at the back of the cheque."

The ultimate beneficiary is Azri and not MCA Public Services Dept, which was holding the funds in trust.

And in the case of DAP, during GE13 the public was asked to donate funds to the current Member of Parliament for Stampin Julian Tan Kok Ping's account in his personal name instead of to his party.

Does this also mean that Julian Tan embezzled money?

And in the case of Tun Mahathir himself, a court testimony in 2010 by the ex-shareholders and directors of UMNO-linked company Realmild - which owned assets worth billions consisting of New Straits Times, MRCB and TV3 - revealed that 70% of the shares of Realmild was held in proxy for the personal name of Tun Mahathir (not UMNO!!).

This fact was further confirmed by Anwar Ibrahim who had wrote on his blog in 2010:

Sekian lama juak Umno memfitnah saya kononnya punyai kepentingan menguasai syarikat gergasi MRCB melalui Realmild. Maka pada tahun 1999, dalam perakuan di mahkamah tinggi KL, saya mengesahkan bahawa pemegang saham terbesar Realmild; 70 peratus adalah atas nama Dr Mahathir sendiri. Dan saya tidak punyai sebarang kepentingan dalam syarikat tersebut. 

Hanya setelah pendedahan tersebut, Dr Mahathir segera meminta Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Maidin mengambil alih saham tersebut, dan ketika itu baru disebut sebagai milik Umno. Maka ia mengesahkan perakuan saya sebelumnya. 

Hal sedemikian terbongkar semula dalam keterangan Abdul Rahman Maidin dan Datuk Nazri Abdullah dalam prosiding mahkamah dalam kes saman Datuk Khalid Ahmad terhadap Datuk Abdul Rahman Maidin. Saya bersyukur kehazrat Allah kerana fitnah terhadap saya yang sekian lama menjerat pemikiran sebahagian pendukung Umno kini terbongkar.

So, how did Tun Mahathir explain why the beneficial owner of 70% of a company worth billions were essentially under his own personal name and not in the name of the party?

Of course Tun Mahathir kept quiet and didn't bother to explain - and neither did he sue Anwar Ibrahim for stating that too nor sue the ex-director for giving a sworn testimony in court,

Tun Mahathir never needs to explain himself, of course.

In any case, it appears that the practise of holding UMNO party funds or assets in the personal name of the President on behalf of the party is not new and this practise is decades-old. And I am pretty sure the Realmild assets were not reflected in UMNO's accounts then too,

This is simply due to the opaque political funding laws of Malaysia - something I hope can be changed soon with new laws regulating such funding to be implemented soon - a process that has already started in September 2015,

Having said that, I agree with JMD's final paragraph which said this:

"MACC must do their job thoroughly."

Let the MACC investigate and see if any laws were broken. The AG had given MACC a deadline until the end of Dec 2015 to complete their investigations - not too far away now.

Why did the 823km PLUS North-South highway have tolls and the 2200km Pan-Borneo Highway doesn't?

The North-South Highway was planned by the govt in 1977. The Malaysian Highway Authority then started construction in 1980, before Tun Mahathir became Prime Minister in July 1981.

(This essentially means that the North-South Highway was not actually a creation of Tun Mahathir despite Tun M taking credit for it. All Tun M did was to privatize it to certain interest groups)

Between 1980 and 1985, the MHA managed to complete the construction of several phases of the project amounting to the total length of 366 kilometer or 41% out of the proposed 823 kilometer highway at a total cost of RM3.2 Billion of govt funds.

In 1986, the entire project was transferred to the then UMNO-crony Halim Saad's UEM group even though it was M despite the fact that UEM’s offer was the most expensive, requires the highest amount of government’s financial support and has minimum revenue, currency and interest rate protection by the govt (see table) and also despite the fact that it has no experience whatsoever.

On top of that, the existing 366km already built using govt money was injected into the now completely privately owned PLUS. And they were allowed to collect tolls from these existing roads (built using govt funds) from us to pay to complete the remaining 500km - a task which they eventually completed but at a 70% cost over-run and two years late.

The government even funded PLUS half of the initial budget of RM3.5billion via a govt support loan.

Thanks to this dodgy Tun M deal, we ended up having to pay 30 years of toll and having to foot the bill of a 10% every 3 years toll increase - which govt had to pay PLUS if the toll rate was not allowed to increase.

All that for a NS Highway that govt and the rakyat pretty much funded PLUS to build and continue to collect even more money from us. This is equally as bad as the rip-off take-or-pay YTL IPP concession Tun M gave that has now expired and not renewed.

Thankfully in 2011, Najib's Govt took over full ownership of PLUS from private hands, restructured the agreement and avoid future toll increases. Now that 51% is owned by Govt and 49% is owned by EPF, at least the govt and the EPF account holders benefit from PLUS. Cronys must not be happy with this.

Yet again, like in the IPP, water concessions and Proton case - Tun M created the problem, Najib had to solve it.

Compare this to Najib's Pan-Borneo highway project where 2,239 km of road will be built and it will be completely toll-free.

Roads that already exist will be upgraded to highway quality and missing links built. Construction has already started on three sections since March 2015 and the entire highway will be fully completed just 8 years later by 2023 and fully owned by govt.

It is a valid question to ask why a 800km highway project in densely populated peninsular has such punishing toll rate while a 2200km highway in sparsely populated and punishing terrains of Sarawak will be toll-free.

I wonder if Najib was the one who built the 800km NS highway instead of Tun M then, would we be enjoying toll-free NSE travel today.

Epilogue: On top of being filthy rich from projects such as these, UEM's ex-owner Halim Saad was also paid compensation of an additional RM165 million in 2003 by Tun M's govt.

But not satisfied, Halim sued govt in 2013- claiming Tun M and company cheated him  -  asking for an additional RM1.8 billion in compensation (he lost the case in July 2015).

Note: I think it is high-time that Najib looks at the rest of these unfair highway concessions awarded during Tun M's time and restructure them the way that PLUS was restructured and forever stop any toll increases.

After reading this, I am not sure if Tun M loyalist would still be so proud of this NS Highway project.

Let's analyze Tun Mahathir's scare-mongering tactics over the economy

In his attacks against PM Najib, Tun Mahathir likes to repeatedly engage in the scare tactics that with Najib as Prime Minister, Malaysia will go bankrupt or become a failed state - tactics that DAP's Lim Kit Siang has used for 40 years against the govt (in LKS' blog right now, there are 882 references to "failed state" and "1,730" references to "bankrupt") .

In his many repeated and recycled attacks seemingly designed for those less financially savvy or knowledgeable, Tun Mahathir would touch on the stock market, the economy and the currency. Here are some recent examples of what Tun M wrote:

• 30 Nov 2015 -  "big fall in the value of the currency and stock value"
• 6th November, 2015, "The stock market is down with big loss in market capitalisation. Again this would not be good for the economy."
• 1 Sep 2015 - "As long as Najib remains in authority that will be for how long there is going to be economic slump, fall in ringgit, fall in stocks"
• 17 Aug 2015, - "The stock market has all but collapsed. Investors, especially foreign investors are taking out their money to safer places abroad."

But how much of what Tun M wrote is true and how does it compare to Tun M's track record?

Let's take a critical look - purely based on hard data and facts.

Let's have a look at the Bursa Stock Market index first.

Najib became Prime Minister on 3rd April 2009 and as of last Friday's close - the stock market in the six years that Najib has been in charge, is still more than double from 800 points to close to 1,700 points when he took over and there seems to have been a recovery of sorts in the past month too.

Mahathir became Prime Minister on 16th July 1981.

But what was the impact of Mahathir's first 6 years as PM on the stock exchange?

Yup. The stock market actually crashed by half during the first 6 years of Tun M's reign.

And what about the last 6 years of Tun M's reign when he retired on 31st Oct 2003.

Not so pretty reading too for the last 6 years of Tun M. It has dropped from the peak of 1300 points to 800 points and was as low as below 300 points at one time. 

Such a crash would have meant any Prime Minister should just quit but he stayed on since no ex-PM at that time keep writing blogs and going on ceramahs to keep on pestering Tun M to quit.

To summarize:

• Najib's first 6 years saw the stock market more than double.
• Mahathir's first 6 years saw a crash in the stock market which dropped by half
• Mahathir's last 6 years still saw the market down by 33% from its peak and saw a drop of 80% at one time.

Okay, let's look at the Malaysia's Gross Domestic Produce (GDP) next.

Here is Najib's first 6 years in charge.

Najib's first 6 years in charge saw our GDP grow a total of USD124 billion from USD202b to USD326b - a growth of 61%.

For Mahathir's first six years in charge, here is the GDP chart:

Tun M's first 6 year in charge led to a growth in GDP of barely 20%.

And this is Mahathir's last six years in charge:

Mahathir's last six years in charge were basically years of turmoil and stagnation where GDP was about the same in his last year as it was 6 years ago.

In fact, for all the propaganda that Mahathir used to push out how great he was, the results show that he achieved a 4 fold increase in GDP for Malaysia in 22 years.

But based on Najib's first 6 years in charge where the GDP grew 61% from USD202b to USD326b, and if you extrapolate it over 22 years too, the GDP would be USD1,155b - almost 6 times more - compared with Mahathir's 4 times.

Obviously, continuing such growth is gonna be tough as there will be ups and downs but based on Najib's deliberate and bold transformation policies and willingness to make hard but necessary policy decisions such as implementing GST while reducing corporate and income tax, doing away with broad subsidies in favour of targeted direct aid such as BR1M, liberalizing trade, implementing minimum wages and structural reforms in education and industry, he is doing the right things - which has earned Najib praise from international economists and world bodies. 

Like it is easy to move from poor to middle class but very hard to move from middle class to wealthy, it is certainly easier to move from undeveloped to developing country - but the jump from developing to developed is much tougher.

This is called the middle-income trap that many countries fail to break out of. And this is why you need to totally transform the economy since - unlike Mahathir's day where we can depend on low wages to attract factories - we can no longer use the same approach and where innovation and significant structural reforms is needed - hence those tough but necessary policies such as GST etc.

Having said that, humans have a tendency to romanticize the past - our first love is the best, our roti-canai of our youth taste better, no one can beat the Milo ais from the Milo truck when we were young, (okay, this one is true).

However, hard data shows that the past was not as great as we remembered - but that is human psychology always thinking the past was better (in the old days ..etc..) coupled with the fact that the 1980s and 1990s were days of tightly-controlled propaganda which keep on telling us how great Malaysia and Tun Mahathir was.

But then again, if you ask the majority of North Koreans today, they will also tell you how great their supreme leader Kim Jong Un is.

Okay, what about our currency? How shitty is that?

Mahathir actually started with USD1 to RM2.40 but ended up going as weak as USD1 to RM4.88 before he cowardly pegged it at USD3.80 by implementing tough capital controls. which scared of investors for many years until he resigned. 

This was one of the first major policy reversal that Pak Lah did when he removed the peg in 2005

And this is why Najib does not want to implement a currency peg - which is the easiest thing for Najib to do amidst loud criticism by Tun Mahathir about the recent currency weakness. 

How come Tun M does not know that Najib can do whatever Tun M did by cowardly pegging the currency? 

But Najib doesn't do that as it knows the long-term harm it does for the economy and bites the bullet the let the currency find its true level amidst weakening of other currencies too.

Most people have short memories and forgot that for many years, USD1 to RM3.70 was the normal range. 

We got used to the last 6 years when our currency appreciated from RM3.73 when Najib took over to as high as RM2.96 in May 2013. Of course Najib never got praises for this.

It is a fact that we are still trading within a +/- 20% range of the currency when Najib took over. See the graph below.

Our Ringgit has since appreciated somewhat from the low level of RM4.44 to USD4.19 close on last Friday.

And the main reason why our Ringgit have dropped was mainly because Malaysia is deemed as a major primary commodities net exporting country (rubber, timber, palm oil, oil and gas) and the world commodities prices have slumped since late 2014.

Malaysians have a very short-term view and very selective vision.

Here are the currency charts of similar primary commodities exporting countries vs our Ringgit.

The following past 5 years charts shows how much One Ringgit can buy of their foreign currency - which means the higher the chart is, the stronger our currency is against those countries.

These countries are Australia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Brazil, Russia and the favorite of many Pakatan leaders and supporters - Norway.

As you can see from the above charts, Malaysia has appreciated against those countries over the past 5 years - mainly because those countries depends more on primary commodities exports than Malaysia.

Over time when our transformation policies take place we become more industrialized and depend less on commodities, our currency will be less volatile and will eventually appreciate too.

But back to Mahathir. When Mahathir took over as Prime Minister, our Ringgit was about one to one to the Singapore dollar. But when he finished, we were as low as RM2.82 against the Singapore dollar and ended up in the RM2.30 range.

The Tun M years: Ringgit vs Singapore

During Najib's 6 years in charge, the currency was pretty stable against the Singapore Dollar at the RM2.50 level and it only started weakening by 20% only in the last half of 2014 along with the commodities slump.

When commodity prices recover and our transformation policies take root, it is anticipated that our Ringgit will recover against the Singapore dollar too. It is now at RM3.01 - an improvement over the RM3.12 level just months earlier.

In any case, because Singapore's city-state economy is completely unique to the rest of the world and everything is imported (including labour), a strong Singapore dollar doesn't hurt but helps Singapore - which is why Singapore has no choice but to continually appreciate its currency.

Recently, there is still much doom and gloom due to scares about 1MDB - which is mostly politcized by Tun Mahathir, Pakatan politicians and their friendly media.

In the context of things however, even a RM42b debt to Malaysia is quite insignificant as our GDP is more than RM1 trillion.

And plus, PM Najib have promised to settle all the debts without relying on government funds - and it is already well in progress.

Out of the RM42b, 

- about RM16b has been settled with an asset swap arrangement signed in June 2015 with the Abu Dhabi govt owned fund IPIC where 1MDB's financial assets (including the remainder of the Cayman funds)

- about RM17.3b has been settled with the recent sale of Edra.

- another RM5b or RM6b will be settled with the sale of a stake in Bandar Malaysia by Dec 2015 - a process in its final stage.

By the end of this restructuring, 1MDB will be no more but will end up passing about RM12 billion worth of appreciating assets back to the government - which is not bad considering government only ever put in RM1 million of real capital into 1MDB.

Moving forwards, Malaysia still faces headwinds next year due to the scares of China economy slowing down and the global economy not recovering as fast as they should - but for the moment, we are still pretty decent.

For example, 2015 GDP Growth so far this year :

And strong exports growth - for example, the Oct 2015 trade results which was just announced last Friday where we completely blew away market expectations to achieve our largest surplus in 4 years.

Malaysia reported a RM12.16 billion trade surplus in October of 2015, up ten fold from RM1.19 billion a year earlier - the largest trade surplus since October 2011, as exports surged.
Malaysia's exports in October surged 16.7% from a year earlier, increasing for a fifth consecutive month, supported by demand for electrical and electronic products, government data showed today.
October's exports had the highest year-on-year growth since April 2014, more than twice the 7.9% growth forecast by economists in a Reuters poll.
Imports were almost flat, down 0.4% on lower imports of electronic integrated circuits. The poll expected a 4.3% drop in imports following September's sharp rise of 9.6%.
Malaysia's trade surplus rose to RM12.2 billion in October from RM9.69 billion the previous month.
Exports to China, Malaysia's biggest trading partner, expanded 26% year-on-year in October driven by sharp increase in electronic products segment such as integrated circuits. Shipments to the U.S. and European Union countries soared 31% and 27% respectively thanks to higher exports of manufactured products.

If I am wrong, please do leave a comment and call me a liar.

In the meantime, smart Malaysians with actual knowledge and who bother to check their facts will know that Tun Mahathir's scare-mongering about the economy and frankly, utter lies - just so that Najib will resign and be replaced with someone that Tun Mahathir can control with his Council of Elders - will not work.

A few days ago, even the famed The Economist magazine seems to have lost patience with Tun Mahathir recently and had this very unflattering (and frankly quite biadap) sentence about Tun M which read:

"But Dr Mahathir’s dire warnings that UMNO faces doom at the next election, due in 2018, sound increasingly like the impotent rants of a cranky has-been."

I would think that Tun Mahathir has done his part for the country and should really give up the hate and the dendam - and let the current Prime Minister take over without your constant heckling, lies, bad-mouthing and interfering - something that you have done for 4 out the 6 Prime Ministers that Malaysia ever had (one PM died before he had a chance to be attacked by Tun M and the other PM is Tun M himself).

JAWAPAN KEPADA SURAT TERBUKA TUN DR. MAHATHIR MOHAMAD

Banyak isu-isu yang dibangkitkan oleh Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad dalam blog terbarunya dikitar semula, tidak tepat dan separuh benar yang disensasikan demi mempengaruhi sentimen dan emosi ahli UMNO untuk menentang kepimpinan Perdana Menteri. Sangat menyedihkan bilamana Tun sanggup menabur fitnah demi menyingkirkan Perdana Menteri dan menubuhkan Council of Elders yang akan mengawal Perdana Menteri boneka beliau.

1. “Satu Malaysia sama dengan Malaysian Malaysia”

• Ini merupakan tohmahan kitar semula.
• Gagasan 1Malaysia merupakan suatu usaha untuk mewujudkan perpaduan. Perbezaan paling utama dengan konsep “Malaysian Malaysia” ialah 1Malaysia jelas menerima Perlembagaan Malaysia secara keseluruhannya, terutama semua peruntukan yang terkandung dalam Perkara 153.
• “Malaysian Malaysia” pada mulanya adalah suatu konsep yang bercanggah dengan Perkara 153 dan kemudiannya bersifat amat kabur. Kalaulah 1Malaysia benar-benar sama dengan “Malaysian Malaysia,” tentu sekali tidak akan ada Majlis Pemerkasaan Bumiputera, TERAJU dan lain-lain lagi. Kalaulah 1Malaysia benar-benar sama dengan Malaysian Malaysia, tentulah tidak akan ada Model Baharu Ekonomi (MBE), satu rangka kerja untuk meningkatkan sifat eksklusif dalam ekonomi dan pada masa sama, memperkasakan masyarakat Bumiputera agar mereka menjadi lebih berdaya saing.
• Mengatakan bahawa Gagasan 1Malaysia adalah sama dengan “Malaysian Malaysia” merupakan suatu putar belit, dengan niat yang tidak lain dan tidak bukan iaitu untuk mengelirukan orang Melayu.

2. “Penjajah dahulu dilantik sebagai penasihat”

• Dalam era globalisasi ini, kebanyakan negara di dunia telah mengambil ramai perunding asing yang memberi nasihat kepada Kerajaan dan sektor swasta. Peranan mereka ini tidak lebih daripada memberi pandangan bukannya menjadi penguasa. Hakikatnya Negara ini masih ditadbir oleh orang tempatan, Melayu, Cina, India, Bumiputera Sarawak dan Sabah. Bukan orang luar. Kuasa tetap di tangan kita dan bukannya di tangan orang luar seperti zaman penjajah.
• PM mempunyai ramai penasihat di kalangan anggota kabinet, Majlis Tertinggi UMNO, pegawai tertinggi kerajaan, NGO, termasuklah rakyat Malaysia yang beliau sering lawati. Apalah sangat sumbangan “perunding luar” ini berbanding orang-orang tempatan yang begitu ramai yang sentiasa menasihati pentadbiran hari ini? Mengapa Tun menggunakan perumpamaan “penjajah” yang langsung tidak sama dengan keadaan sebenar? Beliau hanya ingin memburukkan PM dan menimbulkan kerisauan tentang kedaulatan negara dengan tak semena-mena.

3. “Penubuhan PEMANDU untuk menggantikan Unit Perancang Ekonomi”

• PM telah pun menjawab tohmahan yang dikitar semula ini.
• PM menubuhkan PEMANDU sebagai badan untuk menyelia program transformasi, yang bukan sahaja meliputi aspek ekonomi di bawah Program Transformasi Ekonomi (ETP) tetapi juga aspek bukan ekonomi di bawah Program Transformasi Kerajaan (GTP), yang sudah tentulah tidak terletak di bawah bidang kuasa EPU, kerana ia adalah sebuah badan ekonomi.
• Bercanggah dengan apa yang dikatakan Tun, PM memberi kepercayaan yang amat tinggi kepada EPU kerana ia merupakan kunci bagi memastikan kejayaan ETP. Malah, melantik seorang daripada CEO paling berkebolehan di negara ini untuk menerajui EPU.

4. “Meletak negara di bawah kehendak Singapura,”

• Ini adalah satu kesimpulan yang berbentuk fitnah. Tun menggunakan isu jambatan bengkok dan menyimpulkan bahawa Malaysia di bawah telunjuk Singapura.
• Jabatan Peguam Negara (AGC) kita telah menasihatkan kerajaan mengenai kesan sebarang pengubahsuaian kepada Tambak Johor di bawah undang-undang antarabangsa. AGC menasihatkan bahawa paip-paip dalam Tambak Johor adalah tertakluk kepada perjanjian air Johor-Singapura (1961, 1962), yang menggariskan bahawa paip-paip tersebut adalah milik Lembaga Kemudahan Awam (PUB) Singapura, dan sebarang pengubahsuaian paip itu mesti diluluskan oleh PUB.
• Tiada persoalan sama ada kita mempunyai keberanian yang mencukupi untuk menentang Singapura. Jambatan bengkok tidak dibina kerana Malaysia komited untuk mematuhi semua perjanjian yang telah ditandatangani. Mana-mana jambatan sekalipun, jika dibina bagi menggantikan Tambak Johor tanpa kebenaran daripada PUB Singapura, akan melanggar hak hartanah Singapura di bawah undang-undang antarabangsa.
• Kita telah membina hubungan dengan Singapura ke satu tahap di mana kita kini terlibat dalam projek dan usaha sama yang membawa kedudukan yang menguntungkan bagi kedua-dua buah negara. Bagi mengukuhkan lagi perhubungan antara Malaysia dan Singapura, kita kini akan membina kereta api berkelajuan tinggi. Malah, telah tercetus juga idea bagi membina jambatan persahabatan yang dimahukan kedua-dua negara dan tidak akan melanggar undang-undang antarabangsa.
• Tohmahan dan fitnah Tun bahawa PM meletakkan Negara di bawah kehendak Singapura ini adalah sangat dikesali dan menyedihkan.

5. “Meminjam berbilion Ringgit yang sebahagian besar dilabur di luar negara...

• Khazanah, PNB dan Syarikat Berkaitan Kerajaan (GLC) lain menjalankan pelaburan di dalam dan luar Negara bagi mengimbangi risiko pelaburan. Ekonomi negara-negara di dunia berkembang pada kadar yang berbeza. Pulangan pelaburan di sesetengah negara mungkin lebih tinggi dari yang lain dan pulangan ini dikembalikan kepada Malaysia dan rakyat. Namun sebahagian besar pelaburan tetap berada di dalam negara, yang dilaburkan melalui KWSP, Khazanah dan PNB.
• Malah pelaburan luar negara kini sangat membantu ekonomi Malaysia pada ketika ini. Pulangan kita dalam bentuk USD ini menjadi lebih besar nilainya apabila RM menyusut akibat tempias harga minyak mentah dunia.
• Jadi apa masalahnya melabur di luar Negara?

6. "Menubuhkan 1MDB dengan modal pinjaman yang besar, tidak dapat buktikan dimana modal yang dilabur berada.”

• Ini merupakan FITNAH dan PEMBOHONGAN. Mengikut audit oleh badan bertauliah antarabangsa pada 2014, semua wang pelaburan telah terkira.
• Tun Mahathir pernah mengatakan RM42 bilion telah lesap. Kemudiannya RM27 bilion pula lesap. Apabila 1MDB menunjukkan bukti di dalam akaunnya, beliau tidak lagi membangkitkan nombor-nombor ini.

7. “Gagal membayar faedah hutang,”

• Sekiranya sesebuah syarikat gagal membayar hutangnya, ianya akan bankrap. Namun sehingga hari ini 1MDB tidak bankrap, malah hutangnya telah menurun dengan mendadak baru-baru ini.

8. “Membeli tanah Kerajaan dengan harga yang amat murah,”

• Ini kenyataan yang separuh benar. Hakikatnya tanah yang dijual kepada 1MDB dengan harga murah kerana 1MDB 100% milik Kementerian Kewangan. Transaksi seperti ini adalah umpama keluar poket kanan, masuk poket kiri.
• 1MDB tidak diberikan dana pelaburan secara tunai seperti syarikat berkaitan kerajaan (GLC) lain, tetapi dana mereka adalah berbentuk tanah. Tun Mahathir berikan wang untuk GLC pada zaman beliau. PM berikan tanah. Kedua-duanya adalah dana pelaburan.

9. “...menjual tanah ini kepada institusi Kerajaan dengan harga 50 kali ganda lebih tinggi.”

• Ini juga kenyataan separuh benar. Institusi kerajaan yang membeli tanah ini bukan 100% milik Kementerian Kewangan, walaupun ianya di bawah penyeliaan kerajaan. Ini suatu perbezaan yang besar berbanding 1MDB, yang dananya datang dari kerajaan.
• Jadi walaupun 1MDB memperoleh tanah pada harga murah, mereka tidak boleh juga menjual tanah tersebut pada harga murah kepada syarikat yang tidak 100% dimiliki atau disumbangkan dananya oleh kerajaan, kerana badan itu akan mendapat keuntungan untuk pihak ketiga, dan bukanya kerajaan yang merupakan pemilik tanah tersebut.

10. "2.6 bilion Ringgit tiba-tiba berada dalam akaun peribadi Najib, kononnya derma dari orang Arab,”

• Ini bukan wang peribadi PM. Dana ini diketahui pemimpin UMNO seperti Setiausaha Agung dan Bendahari. Tun juga menyelia aset UMNO berjumlah berbilion ringgit.
• Tapi kali ini saya perasan Tun tidak lagi menyatakan secara terang-terang wang ini datang daripada 1MDB seperti dahulu. SPRM mengesahkan bahawa tiada wang 1MDB yang diambil. Adakah Tun mengubah fikiran sekali lagi seperti beliau mengubah fikiran bahawa RM42 bilion dan RM27 bilion tidak hilang seperti yang difitnah beliau sebelum ini?

11. “Siasatan oleh Badan Pencegah Rasuah dan Bank Negara ditamatkan oleh Najib sebelum tindakan dapat diambil, Peguam Negara dibuang, PAC dibubar supaya tidak dapat menyiasat 1MDB.”

• SPRM, Bank Negara masih menyiasat. Malah Bank Negara telah pun mengeluarkan pengumuman tentang cadangan tindakan. Namun tiada langsung di dalam pengumuman tersebut menyatakan perkara jenayah berlaku, tetapi beberapa isu pentadbiran yang perlu diselesaikan.
• Peguam Negara berhenti kerana faktor kesihatan. PAC tidak dibubar, mereka masih sedang menyiasat 1MDB dan akan mengemukakan laporan tahun hadapan.
• Mengapa Tun mengatakan PAC dibubar? Ketua Audit Negara telah mengeluarkan laporan awal dan menyatakan tiada perkara yang mencurigakan dijumpai.

12. “Gaji minima dinaikkan sehingga kilang-kilang berpindah ke negara lain dan pekerja hilang pekerjaan,”

• Ini adalah lagi satu FITNAH. Cuba berikan fakta. Malaysia masih terus menerus menerima pelaburan dari luar Negara, khususnya di Iskandar Malaysia.
• Tambahan pula, baru-baru ini bagi suku ketiga tahun 2015, pelaburan asing (FDI) pada RM 500.2 bilion merupakan satu peningkatan daripada suku kedua tahun 2015.
• Kita memperkenalkan gaji minima sebagai langkah mengurangkan beban kepada golongan berpendapatan rendah bagi menampung kehidupan mereka.
• Walau bagaimanapun, kadar pengangguran di negara kita masih rendah pada kadar lebih kurang 3% dan terkawal.

13. “Kejatuhan mata wang dan nilai saham yang teruk,”

• Ini lagi satu kenyataan separuh benar. RM jatuh sebahagian besarnya disebabkan kejatuhan harga minyak mentah dunia yang mendadak. Ini merupakan faktor terbesar dan faktor ini di luar kawalan kerajaan.
• Nilai saham juga jatuh kerana faktor harga minyak. Ini kerana pendapatan hasil minyak merupakan antara penyumbang besar pendapatan Negara. Jika pendapatan Negara jatuh, maka nilai mata wang dan juga pasaran saham akan menerima tempias.
• Namun di bawah pentadbiran Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, kebergantungan kepada pendapatan minyak telah berkurang daripada 30% ke hampir 20% sahaja. Kita bernasib baik kerana GST telah berperanan menyelamatkan Hasil Negara, dan membolehkan kita membentuk bajet 2016 yang banyak membantu golongan B40 dan M40.
• Dahulunya banyak syarikat yang lari daripada membayar cukai, tetapi dengan GST, mereka tidak dapat lari dan sudah mula membayar cukai.
• Sebahagian daripada penambahan ini membolehkan kita meneruskan Belanjawan tahunan yang menyeluruh dan pro-rakyat, di samping mengekalkan anggaran perkembangan ekonomi pada tahap 4-5% pada tahun 2016.
• Walaupun realitinya kejatuhan harga minyak dan keadaan ekonomi dunia adalah faktor utama kejatuhan nilai RM dan juga kebanyakan mata wang negara-negara lain, Tun menyembunyikan fakta ini supaya rakyat dan orang UMNO menyalahkan Perdana Menteri semata-mata. Tun mengetahui hal ini, namun beliau menggunakan hujah tersebut bagi memperdayakan golongan yang tidak mengikuti perkembangan ekonomi global.

14. “Kos sara hidup meningkat,”

• Kerajaan terus berhempas pulas mengambil langkah mengurangkan beban kos sara hidup, seperti BR1M, PR1MA, Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia, Klinik 1Malaysia, pengurangan cukai pendapatan untuk M40, Bantuan Buku 1Malaysia dan banyak lagi.
• Kita masih meneruskan dan memperbanyakkan usaha seperti ini.

15. “Besar kemungkinan parti akan kalah dalam PRU 14 seperti di Selangor dan Pulau Pinang.”

• Yang akan membuatkan Barisan Nasional kalah adalah tindakan Tun sendiri yang tidak sudah-sudah mengeluarkan fitnah, pembohongan dan tohmahan seperti ini. Sesiapa yang ambil alih jawatan PM tidak akan terlepas daripada serangan bertalu-talu Tun.
• Malah Tun sudah secara terang-terangan menyatakan bahawa beliau ingin menubuhkan Council of Elders yang akan menyelia Perdana Menteri seterusnya sekiranya Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib disingkirkan.
• Ini merupakan tindakan tidak demokratik, semata-mata demi memenuhi kehendak Tun yang tidak boleh menerima cara yang lain melainkan cara beliau. Kerana inilah Tun tidak berhenti-henti meminta PM melepaskan jawatan. Kerana PM seterusnya akan mengikut arahan beliau melalui Council of Elders.
• Program pembangunan Kerajaan yang bertujuan meningkatkan kualiti hidup rakyat sedang rancak berjalan.
• Antara lain, kunci kepada beberapa projek rumah mampu milik PR1MA telah diserahkan dan semakin banyak lagi akan menyusul. Jambatan Pulau Pinang kedua sudah siap, Fasa 1 MRT hampir siap, 1.5 juta pekerjaan baru diwujudkan dalam 5 tahun lepas dan menjadikan kadar pengangguran kita antara yang paling rendah di dunia. Koridor ekonomi seperti Iskandar Malaysia menyaksikan infrastruktur, rumah, kilang dan kawasan komuniti maju sedang dibina. Greater KL telah pun dimulakan, kawasan perbandaran makin bercambah, Fasa 1 Bas Rapid Transit telah siap pada pertengahan tahun ini dengan lebuh raya Pan Borneo akhirnya dilaksanakan dan bakal menjadi pemangkin ekonomi utama di Sabah dan Sarawak seperti lebuh raya PLUS untuk Semenanjung. Projek Rel Berkelajuan Tinggi (HSR) sedang dijalankan. Ini semua adalah projek dan usaha yang dijalankan oleh pentadbiran Perdana Menteri untuk membangunkan negara ini. Seperti yang anda lihat, ini adalah hasil Program Transformasi yang dilancarkan 5 tahun lepas. Ia akhirnya berlaku dan kita amat teruja melihat impaknya. Inilah yang benar-benar penting buat rakyat.
• Penambahbaikan sedang berlaku di depan mata kita. Tetapi saya tahu bahawa ada yang akan melihat kepada yang buruk dan terus bercakap mengenai khabar angin, perkara separuh benar dan putar belit yang tidak berkesudahan. Mereka terus percaya bahawa ‘pengakhiran amat dekat’ dan bahawa pembangkang akan menang. Ia merupakan dakwaan yang dibuat berulang-ulang kali dalam tempoh lima dekad yang lalu, namun kita masih di sini.
• Walaupun semua orang bebas untuk mengkritik PM dan menyenaraikan semua ‘kegagalan’ beliau, ia juga penting untuk menyedari sejauh mana pencapaian kita dalam tempoh enam tahun lepas, dalam usaha memberikan pandangan yang adil mengenai sesuatu.
• Jikalau segala usaha-usaha ini disokong, dan lebih diketengahkan oleh Tun, Insya-Allah rakyat akan menyokong Barisan Nasional. Malah UMNO akan bertambah kukuh. Apabila Tun hanya menyerang sahaja, sudah tentulah kekuatan UMNO akan terhakis!
• Jadi sekiranya Tun berhenti, kita akan lebih mudah mengukuhkan UMNO dan menerajui pembangunan negara ini!

16. Quote dalam blog Tun “Saya menulis dalam blog saya kerana sekatan yang ketat diadakan supaya saya tidak dapat berjumpa dan bercakap dengan ahli UMNO dan orang awam. Jentera yang diguna yang terdiri dari badan-badan Kerajaan dan parti amatlah berkesan. Dengan sendirinya ini menjadi bukti kesalahan-kesalahan sedang dilakukan.”

• Bukti adalah bukti dan sehingga kini Tun tidak pernah mengemukakan bukti segala tuduhan beliau. Tun telah bertindak secara keterlaluan sehingga memporak-perandakan parti dan pentadbiran negara.
• Pada awalnya PM dengan ikhlas cuba untuk menjawab segala persoalan yang dibangkitkan Tun, namun Tun tetap mengitar semua tuduhan dan tomahan ini berkali-kali.
• Jadi adakah benar Tun ikhlas inginkan jawapan, atau pun Tun hanya ingin menjatuhkan PM saja?
• Jangan kata PM tidak jawab, dia dah jawab berkali-kali, tetapi Tun yang tidak pernah menghentikan desakan beliau.
• Jadi perbuatan keterlaluan ini perlu dihentikan sebelum membarah. Tun bukan orang biasa, Tun seorang yang berpengaruh. Tetapi pengaruh yang digunakan Tun telah banyak menimbulkan kekeliruan serta salah faham di antara orang UMNO dan rakyat Malaysia. Jadi ini tidak boleh berterusan.

17. “Menyokong Najib mungkin memberi nikmat kepada orang tertentu hari ini. Tetapi apabila BN kalah nikmat semua akan hilang... Wahai ahli dan pemimpin UMNO diakar umbi. Fikirlah baik-baik. Jangan sokong dan setia secara buta tuli,” quote blog Tun.

• Ini merupakan pembohongan dan manipulasi. Ahli UMNO menyokong kepimpinan demi menguatkan parti dan bukannya membuta tuli. Jikalau Tun Abdullah boleh disingkirkan kerana serangan Tun, sekiranya PM juga boleh disingkirkan kerana serangan Tun, maka sesiapa yang menjadi Presiden UMNO seterusnya akan buat selama-lamanya menjadi lemah kerana boleh disingkir oleh serangan Tun.
• Dan jikalau ahli UMNO sentiasa boleh dipengaruhi asakan Tun dan orang luar untuk membenci, menolak Presiden UMNO, maka porak perandalah kepimpinan parti pada masa akan datang.
• Oleh kerana itulah ahli UMNO memberi dorongan dan sokongan kepada kepimpinan agar saf peneraju parti sentiasa kukuh bagi meneruskan perjuangan agama, bangsa dan negara.
• Sebelum ini, kami masih boleh menjalankan kerja menguatkan parti dan membangunkan negara. Kami mampu menepis serangan pihak pembangkang. Namun sejak Tun mula menyerang, maka usaha kita memperkukuhkan parti dan negara semakin mencabar.
• Sudah tiba masanya Tun melepaskan tanggungjawab mentadbir negara kepada generasi seterusnya. Sesungguhnya tindakan-tindakan beliau inilah yang sebenarnya akan memudaratkan UMNO dan negara tercinta ini.
• Hentikan segala fitnah. LEPASKANLAH.

When Tun M caused a split in 1998 by sacking Anwar, UMNO lost 24.5% of UMNO seats in GE10 (UMNO lost 22 out of their previous 93 seats won in GE9) and lost Terengganu.

GE11.
Tun M had retired and let Pak Lah do his own thing. The country rejoiced that Tun M is no longer PM and Pak Lah's BN won with a landslide victory.

There was a 7.4% swing towards BN resulting in BN winning 51 extra parliament seats. UMNO itself increased 38 seats - from 81 seats to 109 seats, a staggering 47% more seats!

That is what happens when Tun M stayed out of the way.

When Tun M next caused a split in 2007 by leading a campaign to remove Pak Lah because Pak Lah didn't listen to him, UMNO lost 27.5% of their seats (30 out of 119 UMNO seats which they previously won in GE11) and lost an additional 4 states - Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kedah.

From wining the biggest landslide ever in 2004 GE11, UMNO lost a staggering 27.5% of their seats and lost 5 states - and this allowed Pakatan to govern and build their funds, support base and strength.

Happy that he succeeded in pressuring Pak Lah to resign, Tun M then proceeded to help BN campaign by becoming the patron and cultivating PERKASA. However this back-fired and caused BN to lose almost all the non-Malay votes causing BN to further lose another 7 seats.

Then after GE13, Tun M blamed Najib for losing the Chinese votes.

GE10, GE12, GE14 - Tun M's causing splits seems to happen EVERY OTHER election.

And you blame Najib for weakening UMNO and BN? LOL!

I am sure you know who is the real underlying cause.

Note: The 1MDB issue is just a tool used by Tun M to attack Najib. Before Tun M used this as a tool, Pakatan had been using it for years and years and the effect was very limited. It is only when Tun M started using it that people started to beleive the worst - even though all the international auditors and the interim AG report could not find any money missing or stolen.

In 2008, do you remember what were the reasons why Pak Lah HAD to be removed and was corrupt to the core? What were those issues then since it was SO SERIOUS and what happened to those issues now?

Figures and history don't lie.

If you really want to strengthen UMNO-BN for next general election, please ask Tun M to stop.

No need for Tun M to help BN campaign and no need to attack BN, Just enjoy your well-deserved retirement.

To be honest, Tun M and his people are no different from the opposition parties too. In fact, in the absence of Anwar Ibrahim, Tun M could easily qualify as the de-facto opposition leader right now.

Spot the difference !

This was the MalaysiaKini story for today from Tun Mahathir today, I rest my case,

Tun M said car prices were high because of "cukai" not because of Proton. Conveniently he forgot to mention that the cukai was increased precisely to protect Proton and make it cheaper compared to the other cars!

His dendam for Najib out of being ignored seems to have distorted his reality and he has gone on the "Semua Salah Najib" mode of the opposition.
